Night City Gangs: Tyger Claws, Valentinos, 6th Street, Maelstrom, Voodoo Boys and Every Other Crew

ReferenceUpdated

The short version

Cyberpunk 2077 has nine street gangs: the Tyger Claws, Valentinos, 6th Street, Animals, Voodoo Boys, Maelstrom, Mox, Scavengers and, in Dogtown, BARGHEST. The nomad clans in the Badlands, the Wraiths and Aldecaldos, run on their own terms. The Bozos and Inquisitors are older tabletop crews.

How to read this page#

Each entry gives the crew's turf, its style, who is in charge, and which edition it belongs to. Headcounts are the 2077 estimates and move with the source.

Eight crews have their own pages on this site: Maelstrom, Tyger Claws, Valentinos, 6th Street, Animals, Voodoo Boys, The Mox and Scavengers. BARGHEST is covered with the district on the Dogtown page. For where each gang's districts sit, use the Night City districts page. Each entry ends with a one-line read on how to live next to them.

Watson and Westbrook gangs#

The north and east of the city. Maelstrom and the Tyger Claws are at war in Watson.

  • Maelstrom: Turf: Northside, Watson, with Totentanz as its 2077 HQ building. Style: a boostergang obsessed with cyberware, with members on the edge of cyberpsychosis or past it. Leaders: Hammer founded it in the 2010s; Brick leads in 2077, with Royce, Patricia and Dum Dum below him. About 1,300 members. Canon: 2020, RED, 2077, Edgerunners. Own page: Maelstrom. Read: if the arm isn't an arm and the eyes don't blink, you're in Totentanz territory. Leave, and don't owe them.
  • Tyger Claws: Turf: Japantown, Westbrook, plus Little China and Kabuki in Watson. Style: a ruthless gang run like the yakuza, with glowing tattoos, katanas and fast bikes. Their tattoo ink jams smart-weapon targeting. About 5,500 members in 2077, one of the largest crews. Canon: 2020, RED, 2077. They ran under the name Tyger's Claw earlier, and a Kimen-Gumi subgroup shows up in the RED era. Read: the ink jams smart guns, so bring a dumb one. Be polite, always, and never insult the tattoos. Full page: Tyger Claws.
  • The Mox: Turf: Lizzie's Bar in Kabuki, Watson, with presence in Westbrook. Style: a self-defense gang of sex workers, punks and outcasts, 200 to 250 strong, founded May 13, 2067. The name comes from 'moxie'. Leader: Susie Q in 2077. Canon: 2077. Read: the gang you root for. Drink at Lizzie's, keep your hands to yourself, and you're fine. Full page: The Mox.
  • Scavengers (Scavs): Turf: all over the city, as a set of separate crews rather than one gang. Style: kidnap victims and cut their cyberware out for the black market. They take any job, no questions asked. Canon: RED, 2077, Edgerunners. Read: don't walk alone with good chrome. Full page: Scavengers.

Heywood and Santo Domingo gangs#

The central and southeastern districts, where two big crews fight over the same blocks.

  • Valentinos: Turf: Heywood's barrios in the Glen, Vista del Rey and Wellsprings. Style: the Chicano gang of Night City, rooted in local communities, with gold jewelry, religious tattoos and patron saints Santa Muerte and Jesús Malverde. Leaders: Campo Orta, El Sombrerón and Gustavo Orta. About 6,000 members. Predecessor: the El Norte Cartel. Canon: 2077. Read: a gang with patron saints is playing the long game. Be a decent neighbor in Heywood and nobody bothers you. Full page: Valentinos.
  • 6th Street: Turf: Santo Domingo, with an HQ in Arroyo, and presence in Heywood and Westbrook. Style: a patriotic, military-looking gang of Fourth Corporate War veterans founded by Solomon 'X' Wright to keep thugs out. Supplied by Militech and Kendachi. About 2,300 members. Leaders: Rick Morton until 2076, Will Gunner since. Canon: RED, 2077. Read: veterans with Militech supply lines and no patience for tourists. Don't wander around Arroyo looking lost. Full page: 6th Street.
  • Animals: Turf: no permanent turf in the canon, but they are seen around the Tripple Extreme Gym, the unfinished Pacifica NCART station and the Grand Imperial Mall. Style: purist-leaning bruisers who choose steroids and animal supplements over most chrome, in particular a drug called Juice. Structure: 2,500 to 3,000 members split into small packs under alpha leaders such as Sasquatch and Angelica Whelan. Canon: 2077, Edgerunners. Read: they live at the gym and the mall, and they came to fight. Don't walk in looking small. Full page: Animals.

Pacifica and Dogtown#

The south. Pacifica is a Combat Zone, and Dogtown is a walled-off sub-district inside it.

  • Voodoo Boys: Turf: Pacifica, with bases at Batty's Hotel and Eventide. Style: Haitian refugees who arrived after 2062 and took the Voodoo Boys name from outsiders. Their real name is not public. They probe the Blackwall to reach rogue AIs. Small, estimated at 50 to 250, and dangerous in the Net. Leaders: Philippe 'Agwe' Oreste, Maman Brigitte and Placide in Coastview, Slider LaGuerre in Dogtown. Canon: 2077, Phantom Liberty. Read: small crew, enormous problem. Never plug into their systems. Full page: Voodoo Boys.
  • BARGHEST: Turf: Dogtown, with its HQ at the Black Sapphire. Style: a private army under Colonel Kurt Hansen, founded as a militia in 2070, that doubles as arms dealer and Dogtown's law keeper. It ranks like a real army. Leader: Kurt Hansen. Canon: Phantom Liberty. Read: treat the colonel's gate guards like a border crossing. See Dogtown.

Nomad clans#

Nomads live outside the city in the Badlands. They appear here because the gang fights reach them.

  • Aldecaldos: Territory: roaming the Badlands, with a camp outside Night City. Style: a family-run nomad nation that started as a neighborhood watch in Los Angeles in 1992 and went nomad in 1993. It became a full nomad nation in 2017. Leaders: Juan Aldecaldo until 2015, Santiago after. In 2077 Saul Bright's family and Panam Palmer carry the name on screen. Member of the Seven Nations. Canon: 2020, RED, 2077. Read: help one and you get the whole clan, cross one and you get the same clan.
  • Wraiths: Territory: the Badlands around Night City, with spots at the Corp-Bud Cement Factory, Poppy Farm, Rocky Ridge and Union Railroad Station. Style: Raffen Shiv nomads who raid villages, nomad groups and corp transports, and ignore the law. They are the Aldecaldos' long-time enemy. Leaders: Dogkiller in 2020, Nash in 2077. About 300 to 1,200 members. Canon: 2020, RED, 2077. Read: if you see them, you are already too far from the city.

Older crews you will hear about#

These come from the tabletop. They get mentions in 2077 but do not run districts.

  • Bozos: Turf: South West Hill in 2020, scattered later. Style: a prankster gang who biosculpt themselves into circus clowns, with permanent frowns, red noses and flat feet. Their slogan is 'Let's have some fun!'. They first appear in 2017. Canon: 2020, RED, mentioned in 2077. Read: the clown makeup is not a costume.
  • Inquisitors: Turf: none known. Style: a cult-like gang that hates all cyberware and tears it out of people. At war with every other gang. Canon: 2020, RED. Read: if you have chrome, you are the target.

Fixer's notes#

Opinion: the Tyger Claws and Maelstrom are the two gangs to learn first. Between them they split Watson, and they are at war over it.

Common mix-up: Scavengers are not a single gang, and the Animals do not hold a district. Both are clusters of crews. If you are running a tabletop campaign, treat them as recurring threats instead of fixed addresses.

To find where a crew's turf is, use Night City districts. For the cyberware these gangs wear, see the cyberware list.
