Dogtown in Cyberpunk 2077: History, Who Runs It and How to Get In

What Dogtown is#

Dogtown is a walled district in the south of Night City, inside Pacifica. By 2077 it works like a city within the city. The NCPD is forbidden to enter and Trauma Team rarely does, so local order is kept by Hansen's militia, which is nothing like a police force. Think checkpoints, not patrol cars.

The expansion Phantom Liberty is the only place to see it in Cyberpunk 2077. You reach it during a quest called Dog Eat Dog.

How it got here#

The area was meant to be a resort called Serenisands. In the late 2050s investors, with Militech as the largest, backed redevelopment of eastern Pacifica. A construction blast and the discovery of hidden Militech labs under the site led to a wall going up, and construction then restarted. EBM Petrochem Stadium was planned as its centerpiece.

The Unification War of 2069 and 2070 ended the money. Investors pulled out, and Kurt Hansen, a former Militech colonel who fought for the NUSA, held onto part of Pacifica after the war against orders to leave. The district was left unfinished and lawless. Gangs and homeless residents moved in soon after. The resort brochure and the current residents have very little in common.

What it looks like#

Half-built hotels, empty pools and abandoned construction machines sit among the occupied buildings. The stadium's power comes from the nuclear engine of a cargo airship that crashed into it, which Dogtown reused instead of scrapping. Waste not.

Separate areas include Longshore Stacks, Golden Pacific, Luxor Heights and Terra Cognita, all controlled by BARGHEST. The main gate is north of the stadium in Coastview, and the fastest way in or out is the western gate. Use the western gate.

Who runs it#

Hansen does, with a black market and a gun trade that keep outside powers content to leave him alone. He is not a mayor. He is a landlord with an army.

Canon notes#

Dogtown belongs to the 2077 timeline. It appears in the game, in Phantom Liberty and in books including the Edgerunners Mission Kit and the Night City guides. It has no anime appearance, so don't go looking for it in Edgerunners.

Fixer's notes#

Our read: Dogtown is the best-built corner of the map, because it is a place with a reason to exist. A failed investment turned into a fortified militia state, and everything on the street explains how.

Tabletop tip: it is a ready-made no-law zone for a session. For the larger picture, see Night City. For the bar at the other end of the map, see the Afterlife.
