6th Street: Night City's Veteran Gang That Thinks It's the Law

Factions & TechUpdated

The short version

6th Street is a Night City gang of military veterans who started as neighborhood protection and ended up as a self-appointed police force with a criminal side. About 2,300 members in 2077, headquartered in Arroyo, supplied by Militech and Kendachi.

Veterans with a grievance#

6th Street was formed, in RED lore, by veterans of the Fourth Corporate War who got tired of the local gangs and the helplessness of the NCPD. They gathered gear, refreshed their training and went out to keep thugs off the block. People could finally pay back what the gangs had done to them.

By the 2070s the membership has changed. Veterans of the Unification War have joined, along with retired soldiers and discharged corporate security officers who could not find work, and the rest are civilians who got military training after signing up. It is a gang that recruits like an army and drinks like a union hall.

Deputized and still a gang#

In the 2040s 6th Street gets deputized as a private law enforcement contractor and takes over protecting the streets of North Heywood. Patrols walk or ride motorcycles in groups of four to six, with a rapid-response team in armored vehicles bought from nomads. They also guard the Holy Angels Church in Little Europe.

People call them guardians, protectors and nightmares in chrome. The paperwork does not change what they are. High ideals cost money, and 6th Street is soon losing it fast. To pay its bills it moves into extortion and smuggling, and starts selling "confiscated" property. A gang with a mission statement and a cash-flow problem tends to get creative.

Supply line and structure#

Equipment comes from Militech and Kendachi. The main headquarters sits in Arroyo, with local HQs in the other districts it controls, each responsible for patrolling and watching the gang's facilities.

The leadership has a clear line. Solomon "X" Wright is listed as an early leader. Rick Morton leads until 2076, when Will Gunner takes over. For the one-line version of every crew in town, the Night City gangs overview has it.

Turf and the Valentinos#

By the 2070s 6th Street controls most of Santo Domingo and wants more. The fight is with the Valentinos. In 2071 the two gangs are in a turf war, including a firefight in Westbrook. By around 2074 they escalate over Vista del Rey, and many residents leave.

It is a neat setup: a veteran gang that claims to protect the neighborhood against a gang that actually does protect it. Opinion: that is the point. Neither is the good guy, and both think they are.

Fixer's notes#

The official line is that their interpretation of the law and bringing justice to the city is questionable and self-serving. That is polite. In practice they are a militia with a flag and a chip on their shoulder, and the city has been living next to that for fifty years.

For tabletop, 6th Street is a gift. They are organized, they have a believable ideology, and they can be an ally, a client or a problem depending on what the players ask. Veterans love to talk about the war, and an old soldier with a grudge is a free source of plot hooks. See also Militech, the people who keep them stocked.
