Santo Domingo in Cyberpunk 2077: Arroyo, Rancho Coronado and 6th Street

Night CityUpdated

The short version

Santo Domingo is the industrial district in southeast Night City, split into Arroyo and Rancho Coronado, and the birthplace of the 6th Street gang. In Cyberpunk RED it was South Heywood, a nomad hub.

What Santo Domingo is#

Santo Domingo is Night City's industrial testing ground. Corporations tear down old factories to build new ones, real estate changes hands, and every new scheme gets a shot before the next one sweeps it away. The art team described it as your trashy cousin's backyard: broken-down pickups and moldy garden gnomes.

It is also one of the oldest districts in Night City. See Night City districts for the whole map.

Arroyo and Rancho Coronado#

Two sub-districts, one commute.

  • Arroyo: The industrial heart. An old power plant and a junkyard sit next to new, high-tech corporate factories. Working factories keep private security, while neglected buildings are quickly taken over by gangs.
  • Rancho Coronado: Where Arroyo's workers go home. A self-sufficient housing area of dozens of identical houses, reminiscent of traditional American homes of the early twentieth century.

Who runs it#

Corporations own the land and the security. The 6th Street gang was born here when a couple of ex-military veterans decided to take matters into their own hands. The gang now fights the Valentinos over Heywood, to the north.

When a company shuts down and fires its staff, combat troops guarding the site end up working as law enforcement. That is most common around Rancho Coronado, where riots are a risk.

From South Heywood to 2077#

In Cyberpunk RED this area was South Heywood, a poorer section of old Heywood. During the 2030s it became a hub for nomads in Night City, and by the 2040s the Aldecaldo campsite in its southeast heavily influenced local decisions. By 2045 that power was waning, and an independent candidate, Theresa Valentino, won the city manager election with backing from El Norte Cartel.

Santo Domingo avoided the worst of the Fourth Corporate War, so tens of thousands of displaced people built provisional camps here. By 2077 no trace of them remains.

The Badlands tie-in: during the Time of the Red, the Aldecaldos set up a camp on the outskirts of Santo Domingo and ran a transport and guide network from it. See the Badlands and Nomads pages.

Why corporations keep coming#

Corporations are in constant battle over influence here. New businesses appear, old ones fail, and real estate keeps changing hands. Construction sites are guarded by combat troops protecting corporate property and secrets, which is a polite way of saying private armies.

Operational factories pay for their own security. Abandoned ones become gang property fast, and that is the basic engine of the district: a corporate plant closes, a gang moves in, a new plant opens next door.

The district avoided the worst damage of the Fourth Corporate War, which is why it is one of the oldest in Night City. It also means it never got the full reconstruction treatment that City Center did.

Fixer's notes#

Where to go first: Arroyo, if you like industrial scenery. The power plant next to the junkyard next to the shiny new factory is the district in one shot.

What players miss: the factory floor. Our read: it is where the economy actually runs, and the gangs here are a labor problem with guns.

Tabletop tip: a factory closure is a ready-made session. The company leaves, the guards stay, and your players get to decide who is in charge.
