The ten titles#
The first series named its episodes after pop songs, and the sequel keeps the lyric-sized titles. Our read: "0+2=1" is the best name on the list, and "Serce" is the one you will have to look up.
- 1.: "Last Chance for a Slow Dance"
- 2.: "Give Me Another Day"
- 3.: "0+2=1"
- 4.: "Someone That I Used to Know"
- 5.: "Fades (Pass the Distance)"
- 6.: "Everything Hate"
- 7.: "To the Depths with You"
- 8.: "Serce"
- 9.: "Strictly Reserved for You"
- 10.: "Then Everyone Went Home"
What it is about, with no spoilers#
Set in 2078, in a Night City where Arasaka has lost its grip and rival corporations are circling. The official pitch has two main threads: Weak, once a legend called King, is a washed-up edgerunner forced to live without chrome, and D, a netrunner from the Snake Nation, is hunting whoever wiped out his clan.
Between them is Roman Carax, a young cinephile with a camera who films whatever Night City does in front of him. A datashard with an unpredictable power ends up at the center of everything. Meet the full cast on our Edgerunners 2 characters page.
Spoilers Episodes 1 to 3: the shard
Episode 1: King leads a heist on an Arasaka facility to steal a datashard. It goes bad when he succumbs to cyberpsychosis, and MaxTac takes him down. Roman films it and sells the footage to braindance dealer Sal for peanuts. King wakes up bankrupt, his implants downgraded and his crew gone. Roman gets caught in Maelstrom territory, and D saves him.
Episode 2: King meets Avida, who says Talia is his daughter and wants him to bring her home. D raids a hideout for a lead on the massacre of his Snake Nation camp, and Roman and D decide to find the missing shard to use as leverage. King tracks Talia to Maelstrom's stronghold and ends up held there.
Episode 3: Talia is forced to cut ties with Maelstrom after they threaten King, and starts showing early signs of cyberpsychosis. An Arasaka scientist named Kyoko lures D and Roman into a lab, D installs the shard on impulse, and a consciousness named Capri takes over his body. Our read: the second half of this episode is where the show shows its hand.
Spoilers Episodes 4 to 6: Capri and the war
Episode 4: Capri explains she is an engram built as a stand-in for a true AI, and only works in a human host. D, Roman and Capri hack Arasaka Tower, and find a list that includes D, Talia and the late David Martinez. King learns that Talia installs cyberware to offset a degenerative neural disease. Capri decides Talia is a better host.
Episode 5: Talia, under Capri's influence, lashes out at everything. Roman gets the shard out of her, D runs with it, and Capri goes silent in his head. He spends the episode trying to wake her up, ends up fighting Tyger Claws hired by a vengeful Kitano and, when Capri answers, kills them with Roman filming.
Episode 6: D asks Roman to cut a declaration of war against Arasaka. King's netrunner Meshuga suggests Arasaka's Soulkiller tech as a way to save Talia. D starts a campaign of terror, a wealthy fan named Yupi funds it, and Roman starts to wonder what he is filming.
Spoilers Episodes 7 to 10: the run to the end
Episode 7: Kyoko recalls how Arasaka's Project Capricorn failed for lack of suitable hosts. Capri has implanted herself in Talia and reversed her neural degeneration. Fellow Snake Nation survivor Omi confronts D for losing himself in revenge and tells Roman D's real name is David. Avida and King decide to steal Kang Tao's copy of Soulkiller.
Episode 8, "Serce": Arasaka intelligence officer Kate Miller tells D why his camp was hit, and that the man behind it, Tanaka, was already dead. A despondent D kills her and leads a riot. Kang Tao's soldiers kill Yupi and the rioters, and Avida dies in the Soulkiller raid. Opinion: this is the hardest episode of the season.
Episode 9: Kang Tao takes the shard from D and leaves him for dead, and Omi rescues him. Kiril and Kyoko work out that Capri split herself into Talia, and Kang Tao kidnaps her. Talia is overwritten, Capri takes full control and goes after Kiril.
Episode 10, "Then Everyone Went Home": Kyoko gives her life to stop an airstrike on Capri, and Kiril dies in the destruction. D takes Capri back into himself and makes a last stand against the corporations, and the show leaves it open whether he survived. Talia loses her cyberware and leaves Night City with King. She tells Roman to keep filming, and that they will watch his films together one day.
Fixer's notes#
The series leans on the first one harder than the premise suggests. Opinion: watch season 1 first.
