Why Lucy hits so hard#
Her dream is tiny and impossible. Lucy does not want money, revenge or a crew. She wants the Moon, a place no corp owns and no one can follow her to, and she keeps that wish tucked under a cool, bored face. Fans quote her for a reason: she asks for almost nothing and the city still refuses.
Edgerunners works because you want that wish for her from episode 2, and the show knows it.
Who Lucy is#
Lucy is a netrunner, a hacker who breaks into systems through a neural link. Her first scene is a theft on a Night City train, where she meets David. The official blurb calls her an enigmatic netrunner whose skills come from a mysterious past.
She hates Arasaka and thinks of Night City as a prison. Her one stated wish is to get to the Moon. The Moon is the series' recurring image.
What she does in the story#
She takes David on as a partner in episode 2, then sells him out to Maine's crew over a braindance of the Moon. The braindance turns out to be real to her, and she says so in episode 4. That is when she and David become a couple.
Opinion: the Moon braindance is the best scene in the series, a con and a confession at once. If you came from the memes, watch it twice.
How old is Lucy#
The show never states it. Series creator Rafał Jaki has said Lucy is around 20 in 2075 and 2076 (Reddit, Sep 14, 2022), which puts her a few years ahead of David.
Spoilers Where Lucy came from
In episode 7 she tells David she was a child netrunner raised and trained by Arasaka to dive the Old Net, the part of the network sealed off after the DataKrash, to recover lost data. Rogue AIs and malware in there killed most of the other children. Lucy was the one who got out and made it to Night City.
That explains the Arasaka grudge, and it explains why she keeps her past to herself. The show never gives her family or birthplace.
In episode 6 she dives into Mr. Tanaka's mind in Kiwi's place, and what she finds shakes her. Tanaka dies. In episode 9 Faraday and Kiwi work out that she killed him on purpose after learning he meant to use David as a test subject for Arasaka's Cyberskeleton, that she erased David from Tanaka's records, and that she has been killing agents who came for the data. Kiwi caught her in episode 8, and Faraday uses her as leverage against David.
Spoilers The ending
David holds off Adam Smasher at Arasaka Tower and is killed so that Lucy and Falco can get away. In the last scene Lucy has made it to the Moon, alone, and the show does not say how much time has passed.
Our read: in episode 4 David promises to take her to the Moon, and he never does. She gets there without him, and that is the point of the last scene. The dream survives. The person who made it feel possible does not.
Where else you can find her#
Lucy was added to Guilty Gear Strive as a playable DLC character on August 21, 2025. She and Rebecca were also playable in a Wuthering Waves crossover event that ran from June 8 to July 9, 2026. The crossover storyline is not canon.
Fixer's notes#
Tabletop players: build her as a Netrunner from Cyberpunk RED with a deep-dive background and one grudge. She suits a character who works alone and says little.
Skip the temptation to give her a loud backstory at the table. The show's version works because she says almost none of it out loud.
The netrunner who brought her onto the crew has a page of her own: Kiwi.
