Short answer#
Yes, there is a follow-up, and it is out. It is called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, not "season 2", because it does not continue David's story. Netflix and CD Projekt Red released it on October 20, 2026. The official site describes it as an all-new cast and a standalone, 10-episode anime from CD Projekt Red and Trigger.
As of November 1, 2026, no third series or further anime beyond this one has been announced.
What was announced, and when#
The sequence below is the paper trail. Each line is tied to a dated source, not to fan speculation. Two years of denial, then a panel in Los Angeles. Typical.
- October 2022: CD Projekt Red community manager Satoru Honma told the Japanese magazine Famitsu that no second season was planned, and that any follow-up would be something completely different. Kotaku reported it on October 19, 2022.
- August 28, 2024: IGN reported that CD Projekt said it was definitely planning more Cyberpunk 2077 animation projects.
- September 19, 2024: Netflix released a short teaser for a new Cyberpunk 2077 tie-in, which ComicBook.com covered the same day. It did not name a series.
- July 4, 2025: At an Anime Expo panel, Studio Trigger revealed that Edgerunners 2 was in production. Anime News Network reported it as a new 10-episode series for Netflix.
- June 28, 2026: Netflix posted a new visual and said the series would premiere in the fall (Anime News Network).
- June 30, 2026: The Japanese and English casts were announced (Anime News Network).
- July 3, 2026: Anime News Network reported the theme songs: "10:15 Saturday Night" by The Cure and "Watson" by Petite Meller.

What it is, with no spoilers#
It is set in 2078, about a year after the events of Cyberpunk 2077, as CD Projekt's loremaster confirmed in an IGN report of October 21, 2026. The cast is new. The lead is Roman Carax, a young filmmaker who records life in Night City, and the story follows several people around him: a netrunner called D, a runaway named Talia Yang, and a veteran edgerunner past his prime called Weak Kingsley.
Kai Ikarashi directed. Bartosz Sztybor, who wrote on the first series, is writer, producer and showrunner, and Masahiko Otsuka returns as scriptwriter. Tsuneo Imahori scored it. The original director, Hiroyuki Imaishi, handled the opening storyboard.

Critics were split on how it compares with the first series: Mashable and IGN were warm, Gizmodo thought it fell short of the original. Following Edgerunners is a rough act, and the split reviews say as much.
What is not confirmed#
No third series, renewal or further Cyberpunk anime has been announced, and there is no official home-video date for Edgerunners 2. For comparison, the first series got its Aniplex Blu-ray on May 28, 2025, more than two and a half years after its Netflix debut.
