Cyberpunk 2077Updated

The short version

Viktor Vektor is the back-alley ripperdoc in Little China, Watson, who installs V's first serious cyberware on credit and later diagnoses the Relic. Michael Gregory voices him in English.

The short version#

Vik is the doctor you go to when the hospital would ask for a name. His clinic sits in a basement behind Misty's Esoterica in Little China, Watson, and he treats V and Jackie Welles like people instead of invoices.

He is patient, professional and slightly tired, which is the correct mood for a man who spends his days installing cyberware in people who cannot afford it.

A boxer who became a ripperdoc#

Before the scalpel there were gloves. Viktor was a heavyweight in Watson's boxing scene and came second in the Watson Boxing Grand Prix finals. He left the ring for the quieter business of back-alley surgery but never stopped watching the fights.

Fighters still matter to him. He says Jackie was the first person he trained who knocked him out with one punch. It is a small line and it lands hard.

The IOU#

Before the Konpeki Plaza job planned by Dexter DeShawn, V needs implants and cannot pay. Vik accepts an IOU and hands over a grip and a new Kiroshi implant. V ends up owing him €$21,000.

Vik calls it an investment: a V who dies on the job pays nothing. Pay the debt later and he tries to refuse the money, arguing you can use it better. Insist and he takes it. Most vendors in this city do not argue you out of paying them.

The Relic diagnosis

After the heist goes wrong, Goro Takemura brings a half-dead V to the clinic. Weeks later Vik delivers the news: the Relic is slowly overwriting V's mind with Johnny Silverhand's engram, and he has no way to stop it.

He never pretends otherwise. In Phantom Liberty, when V asks whether a Militech AI from beyond the Blackwall could help, he says it might and that V should go for it. He also coaches V in the Razor Hugh fight, and if V throws it, he notices and says so.

Spoilers

What happens to him

Vik leaves a message in the credits whatever ending you choose. Since Phantom Liberty added the Tower ending, he is the only character who always does. In the death endings he is upset that he could not do more, and Misty is the one who encourages him to call.

In the 2079 epilogue, if V had the Relic removed and returns to Night City, Zetatech has taken over Misty's Esoterica and turned it into a ripper clinic. Vik has been employed under Zetatech and is being sent to Frisco while his clinic is renovated. Misty hates the changes and leaves for Poland.

Our read: this is the game's quietest gut punch. The corporation does not kill the good ripperdoc. It just offers him a contract he cannot afford to decline.

Where his story shows up#

Viktor appears in The Ripperdoc, Playing for Time and a string of later calls. Early on, a fixer named Arthur Cormac also visits him looking for someone selling a cyberarm, and Vik says he knows nothing. It tells you what kind of confidant he is.

He also warns V when new cyberware software hits the market. Opinion: he is the one NPC who treats the player's body as a medical case rather than a loadout.

Fixer's notes#

What players miss: visit him after every major job. His lines about boxing, about Misty and about what the city does to people change with the story, and the IOU scene is the one place the game shows what a ripperdoc's trust costs.

At the table, Vik is the model for a Medtech with a conscience. In Cyberpunk RED terms, give him a clinic, a landlady and a debt book. Do not give him a big gun. The scariest thing about him is that he is nice.
