Who Myers is#
Myers is the head of state of the New United States. She is a former marine, a former Militech CEO and the architect of the Unification War. She plays the commoner when it helps and is cold when it doesn't. Her view is that the ends justify the means.
She is also the person on whom the plot of Phantom Liberty depends.
From marine to president#
She was born into a wealthy East Coast family with roots going back to the Mayflower. She began in the Marine Corps, caught Militech's attention and, after CEO Donald Lundee died, took over the company. She ran it for almost a decade.
In 2065 she handed Militech to Lucas Harford and was elected the third president of the NUSA. Her reelection campaign pushed a unification program to bring the remaining Free States under federal rule. Most of them opposed it, and once she won, the Unification War began in January 2069.
By 2070 the NUSA tried to take Night City and was stopped when Arasaka intervened. Myers signed the Arvin Accord in June 2070 rather than risk a global war. She did not get full annexation, and Texas stayed outside the Union.
Myers in 2077#
By 2077 she is in her third term and announces a run for a fourth, under the slogan "A Return to Unity." Night City is split: some call her a corporate-backed fascist with imperialist delusions, others point out the city's crime rate is double anywhere in the NUSA and argue for accepting her control.
She also orders strikes on Texan airbases after suicide bombings at NUSA bases, which raises the odds of a border war. After Saburo Arasaka's death she warns that both the NUSA and Militech will respond with full force if provoked.
Spoilers Phantom Liberty
Spoilers: Myers and her agent Song So Mi are on Space Force One when a missile hits the wing and the plane goes down toward Dogtown. So Mi puts Myers in the saferoom, knowing she will survive. The plane crashes in the west of the district, and V is sent to find her.
Once V reaches her, Myers is suspicious that someone on her team betrayed her and orders V to cut a tracker out of her neck. They escape Dogtown with help from a sleeper agent, Solomon Reed. If V walks away from the deal, Myers and Reed are later reported killed by BARGHEST, and Kurt Hansen gets the bodies.
In the epilogue she denounces Saburo's "resurrection" and, weeks later, agrees to meet him in person to lay the foundations for peace.
Fixer's notes#
Opinion: Myers is the best written politician in the game, because the writers let her be sympathetic, annoying and dangerous in the same conversation. She has a nicotine habit and misses being a marine.
What players miss: she appears on news broadcasts in the base game, with a different model than the expansion version. Also, you can sign two petitions in the Net: one against Night City's reunification and one for it.
Tabletop tip: a head of state who wants out of a hostile city quietly is a good escort job. Pair her with a fixer who knows how much it costs.
